BRIGHTON CHESS AND LEGO CLUB

Learning how to Play Chess

WEEKLY SESSIONS

Brighton Chess and Lego Club meets weekly. Every session takes place on Wednesdays between 3.45pm and 5.15pm. 

 

We follow Brighton & Hove's School Term and Holiday Dates.

​

FEES:

Single session: £9 p/w

Siblings: £8 p/p, p/w

​

Each joining family is required to make a donation of a pre-loved or new non-branded Lego set OR to contribute an introductory £1o which the club will use to purchase Lego buckets or replacement pieces.

​

Brighton Chess and Lego Club encourages both home-educated and school children between the ages of 7 and 14 to join us.

​

OUR TUTORS

Brighton Chess and Lego Club is supported by the CSC (Chess in Schools and Communities)

 

Our Chess Tutor is Frazer Ives, longtime member of Brighton Chess Entusiasts Club, trained by CSC to give children the best start possible in their chess journey!

Our Lego coaches are volunteering parents.

Both our Chess Tutor and Lego volunteers are DBS-checked.

SKILLS

Through practicing chess and Lego, children develop important skills such as:

  • Critical Thinking: Analysing different scenarios and making strategic decisions.

  • Problem-Solving: Identifying solutions to challenges and adapting to new situations.

  • Patience: Waiting for the right moment to make a move or strategy.

  • Focus and Concentration: Paying attention to the game and planning ahead.

  • Decision-Making: Weighing options and understanding consequences of actions.

  • Memory: Remembering past moves and patterns to anticipate future ones.

  • Planning and Organization: Thinking ahead and organizing moves strategically.

  • Resilience: Learning to deal with mistakes and setbacks in a constructive way.

  • Creativity:  Encouraging imaginative thinking and constructing unique designs.

  • Fine Motor Skills: Building and manipulating small pieces to develop hand-eye coordination.

  • Spatial Awareness: Understanding shapes, sizes, and how pieces fit together in space.

  • Problem-Solving: Figuring out how to build structures or overcome challenges during play.

  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Working with others to build complex designs or solve problems.

  • Attention to Detail: Focusing on small components and the bigger picture.

  • Perseverance: Sticking with a project, even when it’s challenging.

  • Patience: Taking time to build and complete projects step by step.
